1. Navigate to Start/Control Panel/Network and Sharing Center
  2. Now click on ‘Set up a new connection or network’
  3. Double-click on ‘Connect to a workplace’
  4. On the next screen, ensure that the radio button ‘No, create a new connection’ is selected and click Next
  5. Now select ‘Use my Internet Connection’
  6. Enter the internet address of the remote site. (This is either a dns name, such as mail.domainname.co.uk or an IP address).
  7. Rename the destination name to a self-explanatory name, such as ‘Connection to Office’, and then click ‘Next’
  8. Enter the username and password for the particular user that is going to use the VPN connection and click on ‘Connect’
  9. Within the networking properties of the VPN connection, uncheck the tickbox ‘use default gateway on remote network’
